Designed by George Davies
Designed by a British architect, George Davies, Paxton Park Golf Course Paducah KY is not only a landmark in the city but also in the history of the game. Davies supervised the construction of the course starting in 1939 before its opening the next year.
This 18-hole course is not only an interesting homage to the great game of golf but also a great facility in its own right. It features several large trees and creeks as well as several very challenging holes.
The course is home to two large regional events each year, including the Pepsi Super Valu Irvin Cobb Golf Championship in July and the Texas Roadhouse Hughes Funeral Home Tri-State Senior Open in September. It is also the site of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Amateur in the coming year. Despite being one of the oldest courses in the state, it is still a great place to play. Its small driving range, excellent practice facilities and well-groomed fairways and greens make it a very enjoyable and challenging golf course to play.
Champion Ultra-Dwarf Bermuda Greens
The Champion Ultra-Dwarf Bermuda Greens at Paxton Park Golf Course Paducah KY offer a lush carpet of turf that looks fantastic and plays even better. These greens are a wonderful choice for those who enjoy playing on a gently rolling, yet challenging public golf course.
Selecting an ultradwarf variety for a new or renovation project requires consideration of multiple factors, including climatic conditions, geographic location, shade tolerance, maintenance budget and superintendent skill level. The selection process should include a realistic assessment of the benefits and limitations of each.
NTEP trial results show positive advantages in establishment, ball roll, fall color retention and recovery from injury. Mach 1 sets itself apart with a super fine texture for superior ball roll and excellent response to growth regulators.
While off-type grasses in ultradwarf putting greens are still a “known unknown,” the management of them is critical to ensure optimal performance. Fortunately, this problem can be mitigated by using quality sources of turfgrass that have a track record for providing clean material. Discover More about Melber here.
